Liechtenstein education region
Liechtenstein is an attractive location for education with an efficient school system and a wide range of opportunities for training and further education. This is of great importance for the small country, as education at the highest level ensures that the innovative strength of the economy, state and society is driven forward.
Repeatedly excellent results in the PISA study confirm that the level of education in Liechtenstein is outstanding. After completing their compulsory schooling, young people have the choice between the Matura or a vocational apprenticeship, which can also be supplemented with a Matura (vocational Matura). The Matura not only gives free access to university in Liechtenstein, but also to universities in Switzerland and Austria. Vocational education and training in Liechtenstein is based on the dual or trial system. In the dual system, training takes place in the training company and the vocational school. In the trial system, this training is supplemented by inter-company courses that teach and deepen practical skills. Recognized higher vocational training courses at tertiary level build on basic vocational training. The low youth unemployment rate in Liechtenstein is partly due to the high quality of vocational training.
Broad educational offer
Despite the country's small size, Liechtenstein's population has access to a wide range of educational opportunities. The University of Liechtenstein offers courses in entrepreneurship, business informatics, banking and financial management, business administration and architecture. It maintains partnerships with over 70 universities worldwide, thus ensuring international networking. Other educational institutions include the Private University in the Principality of Liechtenstein and the International Academy of Music Liechtenstein Established universities such as the University of St.Gallen (HSG) are located within a radius of 70 km. The educational institutions belonging to the University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland (FHO), such as the Interstate University of Applied Sciences Buchs (NTB), also offer courses in various disciplines and are easy to reach. As a member of the European Economic Area (EEA), Liechtenstein participates in EU vocational training programs. These offer graduates the opportunity to gain international experience.
International School Rheintal in Buchs
The International School Rheintal is an important complementary offer. The school teaches pupils from kindergarten age through to the International Baccalaureate (IB) in English and is financially supported by the Liechtenstein government and local companies. The school in Buchs (CH) is located in the immediate vicinity of the Liechtenstein border and is therefore easily accessible.
