From world travel to private banking
From the picturesque beauty of the Black Forest via the Franconian metropolis of Nuremberg to the historic Eternal City of Rome - and finally to the idyllic Rhine Valley in Liechtenstein: Lukas Huber is a man who commutes between many worlds - professionally, privately and culturally. But this is exactly where he finds his fulfillment.
"After graduating from high school, I went on a six-month trip around the world. The variety of cultures I was able to experience shaped my view of the world," says Lukas Huber. "This openness to the world ran through my entire education. I completed my Bachelor's degree in Nuremberg at FAU and gained my first insights into the world of finance as a working student. During a break in Seville, I met my now fiancée Mariateresa. Our meeting was a turning point that led me to do my Master's degree at the renowned Sapienza University in Rome, where Mariateresa was working on her degree.
My fiancée is from Naples and as we are both very cosmopolitan and the geographical center between Italy and Germany is Switzerland, we decided to settle in the region of Eastern Switzerland. I started my career at the Liechtensteinische Landesbank in December 2023 as a trainee in Relationship Management. This was an ideal start for me, as I had completed an academic education but largely lacked practical experience in banking. As a trainee, I was able to immediately immerse myself in the real processes and challenges of the banking business. The principle of "throwing myself in at the deep end" quickly gave me the opportunity to take on responsibility and gain significant experience in direct customer contact.
Private banking: understanding people, finding solutions
Private banking is an incredibly exciting job. You build relationships with people, get to know their dreams, goals and needs and develop tailor-made solutions together. I particularly appreciate the diversity of my clients. No two relationships are the same, and that's what makes the work so varied. My employer has placed a lot of trust in me in a short space of time. I am very grateful to my boss Dr. Hendrik Idema and the whole team. They have given me the chance to develop my strengths in practice. The theory is important, but the experience in everyday working life is unbeatable. The highlight of my career so far has been my permanent position - a milestone that I am very proud of.
Commuting: A daily time-out
For many people, the daily commute from St. Gallen to Vaduz would be a challenge. For me, commuting is like a little break. I listen to podcasts, catch up on market updates and mentally prepare myself for the day. It gives me structure and the opportunity to get away from it all. Of course, there are moments when the journey home seems longer than it is - especially when I want to spend as much time as possible with my fiancée.
For Mariateresa and me, cultural and social integration was and still is a challenge. Naples is an incredibly vibrant city and I am also a person who loves the pulse of a city. That's why we made a conscious decision to live in St. Gallen. The city has an urban character that is ideal for us, but at the same time it offers a high quality of life and the commute to Vaduz is easy.
The Liechtensteinische Landesbank is the perfect employer for me. The people and interactions here are very polite, and the rural surroundings have a charm that I love - it reminds me of my home in the Black Forest. Even though I don't come to Liechtenstein too often in my free time, there are special occasions that draw me here: The national holiday was a highlight for us, and I also enjoy spending time in the beautiful nature that Liechtenstein has to offer, which I appreciate just as much as the Swiss countryside. Mariateresa and I enjoy spending our free time traveling, often to Italy and Spain. Liechtenstein is the ideal geographical center for us to undertake these trips and still have a home where we feel very comfortable.
