Commuting, publications and perfect breaks: my everyday working life between the Allgäu and Vaduz

Kathrin Renn works at the Liechtensteinische Landesbank (LLB) in Asset Management as an assistant for publications. She is a member of the Support & Investment Controlling team and is responsible for the production of publications such as brochures and factsheets, among other tasks. In her free time, she enjoys gardening and sports activities, which she loves to do with her husband.

A varied working day
LLB Asset Management is based in Vaduz. Among other things, my department deals with compliance issues, fee invoicing and the production of publications that are updated monthly. These include brochures, factsheets and special editions with reviews and outlooks on the financial markets.
A lot of the data and information processed in these documents ends up on my desk. I then "typeset" these texts and graphics to produce both digital and printed publications. These reports are an exciting mix: they cover financial markets, political developments, investor trends and forecasts - an extremely multifaceted process. Although I have only been working at the LLB since spring, I already feel well settled in. I've been able to learn a lot of new things in a short space of time and I'm really enjoying putting them into practice.

From the hotel industry to the world of finance
I can look back on a varied professional career. I originally trained as a hotel manager, but after my apprenticeship I gained experience as an assistant in private banking and spent several years living and working abroad. My last position in the hotel industry was as a hotel management assistant in a 5-star resort in the Allgäu region. The desire to use and spend the commuting time to Vaduz together made me take the plunge and I applied to the LLB.

The interview with my current line manager, Franz Maurer, impressed me straight away. Despite my respect for the new area of responsibility, the job fascinated me from the outset and I am glad that I chose it.

My husband and I both work at the LLB, which makes our working day special. We commute together in our small carpool from Allgäu to Vaduz. We start at six o'clock in the morning so we can spend the day together. We particularly enjoy spending our lunch break together - it often feels like a little rendezvous. Sometimes we eat in the beautiful LLB canteen, sometimes we go to a restaurant - I love Italian cuisine - or we go for a little walk.

Sport, nature and little adventures
The love of nature and sport not only accompanies my husband and I in everyday life, but also on our commute to work. We often use our journeys creatively - whether it's for podcasts, audio books or to make our weekend plans. In summer, we like to stop off at one of the great restaurants in the Bregenzerwald. Now in winter, we look forward to the Christmas markets in Feldkirch and Dornbirn. The drive to work becomes an experience, my husband often laughs and says we're going on an excursion. We have also spent the night in the region, a little vacation in everyday life, so to speak, when the road conditions are even wintry.

We both like to spend our free time actively, whether skiing, hiking or cycling. The Allgäu offers a beautiful mountain landscape right on our doorstep. Liechtenstein also has fantastic hiking trails. We particularly enjoy the tour to the Gafadura hut with a view of the Three Sisters and a fantastic sunset. Moments like these are the perfect balance for us.
In the future, I would also like to take advantage of the great offerings at the LLB, such as the yoga classes that are regularly offered to employees - my husband is already actively involved. And another goal has already been set: we are planning to cycle to work next year. I love the idea of experiencing the morning atmosphere on my bike. That would be a particularly nice start to the day - and to a job that I look forward to every day.
