Free trade agreement with India enters into force

The trade and economic partnership agreement between the EFTA states and India came into force on October 1, 2025. As a result, Liechtenstein companies will benefit from greater legal certainty and improved market access to one of the most important growth markets. The contracting parties marked the entry into force with an official ceremony in New Delhi, which was also attended by representatives of companies from the EFTA states in India.
The Indian Trade Minister Piyush Goyal and the representatives of the EFTA states welcomed the entry into force of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between the EFTA states and India at a ceremony in New Delhi and emphasized the great economic opportunities that the agreement offers for all contracting parties. Not only does it create greater legal certainty and improved market access for sectors such as machinery and equipment manufacturing or the export of precision instruments, it also simplifies customs procedures and opens up investment opportunities for companies from the EFTA states in India.
Liechtenstein was represented by Christine Lingg, Deputy Director of the Office of Foreign Affairs. In her speech, she emphasized the innovative strength and interest of Liechtenstein companies in the growth market of India. At the same time, she emphasized the central necessity of a double taxation agreement between Liechtenstein and India, which creates tax security for investors. The CEO of LGT India and the CFO of Hilti India also took part in the ceremony and reported on their respective activities and investments in India as part of the interactive discussion round with companies.
