Inaugural visit by Head of Government Brigitte Haas to Bern

Head of Government Brigitte Haas paid an official working visit to Bern on Monday, August 11, 2025 at the invitation of President of the Swiss Confederation Karin Keller-Sutter, Head of the Federal Department of Finance.

The meeting was dominated by current bilateral and international developments. In particular, current topics relating to transatlantic relations and the associated differences in customs tariffs, which represent a new starting point for the common economic area, dominated.

"Both Switzerland and we want to continue to cultivate and strengthen our close bilateral and friendly relationship," explains Head of Government Brigitte Haas. "We are convinced that we can overcome challenging times together."

At European level, the focus was on the concluded negotiations between Switzerland and the EU and the next steps. Liechtenstein's experience of 30 years in the European Economic Area (EEA) was also discussed. Topics such as competitiveness and security in Europe were also discussed. Ukraine was also discussed.

In the context of international engagement, the focus on Monday was on two key topics: the Austrian-Liechtenstein presidency of the European Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP) in 2025 and the upcoming Swiss chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2026. The OSCE Ministerial Conference will take place in Switzerland in December 2026.

The visit took place at the Lohn estate in Kehrsatz near Bern and underlined the close ties between Liechtenstein and Switzerland.
